Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA

Since it was built in 1966, the Oracle Arena has held a number of titles. Formerly known as Oakland Arena, The Arena in Oakland and Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena, the historic indoor venue is the oldest building still used by the NBA.

Before a major renovation in 1996, the Oracle Arena was one of the smallest venues in the NBA with roughly 15,000 seats. Contractors tore out the building’s interior and built entirely new seats inside the old arena. With the new floor plan, 17,000 fans can view an ice hockey game and nearly 20,000 people can attend a basketball game. The renovation also included a large LED scoreboard that can be seen from anywhere within the arena. Visitors to the Oracle Arena can choose tickets in one of the venue’s 72 suites. Additionally, the complex features three exclusive clubs for fans to attend before, during and after their favorite events.

Over the years, a number of teams have called the Oracle Arena home. With the exception of the renovation years, the NBA’s Golden State Warriors have played in the arena consistently since 1971. The WHL’s California Seals, NHL’s Oakland Seals and California Golden Seals, MISL’s Golden Bay Earthquakes and NCAA’s California Golden Bears have also played regularly at Oracle Arena.

Oracle Arena features a round seating layout and offers tickets on several different levels. The venue is located in a large sports complex that also includes the O.co Coliseum, home of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders and the MLB’s Oakland Athletics. It is primarily used for sporting events, but many musical acts also tour through California and play shows at the Oracle Arena. Acts like The Grateful Dead, Duran Duran, Cold and Taylor Swift have all played large shows for fans in Oakland.

The historic venue has also hosted other major entertainment events. Oracle Arena is home to Stars on Ice, Disney on Ice and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. Over the past decade, the arena was also the location for several wrestling events for World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The 2000 NBA All-Star Game and several rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament have also taken place in Oakland’s most noted arena.

The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority, managed by Alameda County and the city of Oakland, own both the Oracle Arena and the O.co Coliseum. AEG, a subsidiary of Anschutz Company, manages the venue along with a number of other notable American entertainment facilities.
